Field note 08 · Research draft

How long is Resonance?

Expect roughly twelve to fourteen hours for a direct story run, with exploration and completion widening the range.

A direct Resonance story run was reported at roughly twelve to fourteen hours. A run with ordinary exploration was estimated around fifteen to eighteen hours, while a fuller collectible route was reported around twenty-two to twenty-five hours. TrueAchievements showed a fifteen-to-twenty-hour mode estimate for all 36 achievements from a sample of twenty-five completed players. These numbers measure different goals, so they should be treated as overlapping launch-period ranges rather than one exact completion time.

Playtime at a glance

For the main narrative, plan around twelve to fourteen hours. For a first run that stops to explore and solve puzzles without chasing every object, fifteen to eighteen hours is the more useful range. For all collectibles, allow roughly twenty-two to twenty-five hours in the written guide estimate. For all achievements, the early TrueAchievements sample pointed to fifteen to twenty hours, but that route can be shorter than a literal all-collectibles sweep because platform objectives and cleanup methods differ.

An official FAQ was reported elsewhere with a broad estimate near twenty hours, but the page body did not return readable content during the original browser check. The research therefore did not quote it as a verified official statement. The homepage's earlier “approximately 20 hours” field is not used as the only answer; the source set supports a range separated by play style.

Main story

GameRant estimated twelve to fourteen hours for players moving primarily through the story. IGN's narrated review independently described an approximately twelve-hour campaign. Those two sources support the same general scale even though they are not controlled stopwatch tests. A community member reported finishing in about ten and a half hours, illustrating that a faster result is possible without establishing a new norm.

Resonance is a linear third-person action adventure rather than an open-world checklist. Linear does not mean every player moves at the same speed. Combat retries, puzzle observation, chosen difficulty, cutscene behavior, accessibility settings, and time spent reading the sketchbook can all change the total. A player comfortable with parries and light-routing puzzles may finish much sooner than someone learning both systems.

The chapter research identified fourteen named chapters when the epilogue is counted. One of them is a short narrative transition, and the last is a brief epilogue. Dividing a total by fourteen would not produce useful equal chapter times. Early chapters reported by one guide ranged from about thirty-five to seventy-five minutes, showing that chapter length varies substantially.

Exploration and completion

The fifteen-to-eighteen-hour range represents a normal exploratory run in GameRant's structure. That can include optional pickups, pauses to inspect ruins, and extra puzzle attempts without insisting on every collectible. The full-collection estimate rises to twenty-two to twenty-five hours. It should not be confused with the number of achievements, because a collectible family can contain many objects while contributing to a smaller number of trophies.

Published collectible totals conflict when sources group categories differently. One chapter guide listed nine blades, thirty-seven artifacts, twenty-five charms, five Theseus Echoes, and two hundred Resonance Points. Other summaries used broader or narrower totals. A completion-time estimate depends on which set the author actually chased. This page does not add those figures into one universal “collectible count.”

Exploration time also depends on whether the player uses a guide immediately. Following exact locations can shorten search time while adding pauses to compare screens. Playing blind may take longer but preserve discovery. Neither style is the official duration. Choose the estimate that matches how you intend to play, not the smallest number printed by a fast reviewer.

Achievements and chapter select

TrueAchievements estimated fifteen to twenty hours for all 36 achievements based on twenty-five completed players at the research snapshot. That is a dynamic community sample and can shift as more players finish. On PlayStation, there are 36 non-platinum trophies plus the platinum, so the visible total is 37. The extra platinum does not represent an additional gameplay task beyond completing the list.

Mortismal's narrated 100-percent review said chapter select becomes available after completion, shows missing collectibles in the chapter interface, and preserves progress outside the selected chapter. PowerPyx likewise describes post-story cleanup for most trophies. That flexibility can keep achievement time below a completely blind second playthrough.

One warning deserves attention: the trophy roadmap identifies a Resonance Point requirement as the notable missable condition because those points do not simply accumulate across chapter-select replays in the same way as ordinary cleanup. Consult the trophies guide before a completion run. This duration page mentions the risk but does not replace the objective-specific route.

Why estimates differ

The source labels answer different questions. A reviewer may report the time visible on one save. A guide may estimate the route for an average reader. A completion site may calculate the mode of self-reported users who earned every achievement. A publisher may use a broad marketing estimate. Combining these into an arithmetic average would create a number that none of the sources actually measured.

Launch-period samples also favor experienced, early, or review-access players. Their familiarity with the series and access to guides may shorten some tasks, while review note-taking may lengthen others. Patches can change checkpoints, performance, or tracking. Treat the ranges as planning tools, not promises or refund calculations.

For your own estimate, start with twelve to fourteen hours and add time for the activities you value: several hours for relaxed exploration and more for full collection or trophy cleanup. If you become stuck on a puzzle or repeat combat at a demanding difficulty, your total may exceed every early estimate without indicating a problem.

Sources and limits

The structured ranges come from GameRant's playtime guide. The achievement estimate comes from TrueAchievements. IGN supplied the narrated twelve-hour campaign description, and Mortismal supplied chapter-select cleanup context. The official Steam listing did not provide a duration.

Figures were collected on August 30–31, 2026, when player samples were small. The blocked HowLongToBeat page was not used, and the unreadable official FAQ body was not quoted. This draft distinguishes main story, exploration, achievements, and full collection; it does not guarantee a finish time or present an early community range as permanent official data.
